7To Edom, thus says the LORD of Hosts: Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Counsel has perished from the sons, their wisdom has departed.8Flee! Turn back! Go deep to dwell, O dwellers of Dedan, for I have brought the disaster of Esau upon him, a time of my visiting it.9If grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings? If thieves came by night, would they not destroy only enough for themselves?10For I have stripped Esau bare; I have uncovered his hiding places, and he cannot conceal himself. He can no longer plunder his seed, his brothers, and his neighbors, and he is no more.11"Leave your orphans; I will keep them alive; your widows too can trust in me."12For thus says the LORD: Behold, those who have no legal right for them to drink the cup have drunk—they will drink! And you, he is innocent—you will be innocent? No, you will not be innocent, for you have drunk—you will drink!13For I have sworn by myself, says the LORD: "Bozrah will be a desolation, a reproach, a ruin, and a curse—and all its cities will be perpetual ruins."14I have heard a report from the LORD, and an emissary has been sent among the nations: "Gather yourselves and come against her, and arise for battle."15For look, I have made you small among the nations, despised among humanity.16Your terror has deceived you, the presumptuous rebellion of your heart, O dweller in the hiding places of the rock. Seize the height of Gibeah! For you exalt your nest like an eagle—from there I will bring you down, utterance of the LORD.17Edom will become a desolation. Every passerby over her will be appalled and will hiss over all her plagues.18Like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbors, says the LORD: no man will dwell there, nor will any son of man sojourn in it.19Look, like a lion he will come up from the pride of the Jordan to the steadfast pasture. For I will suddenly drive him off from her. Who is the chosen one whom I will appoint over her? For who is like me? Who will challenge me? And who is this shepherd who will stand before me?20Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD that he has taken against Edom, and his purposes that he has planned against the inhabitants of Teman. Surely he will drag them away like the little ones of the flock? Will he not make their pasture desolate over them?21The earth quakes at the sound of their fall; a cry is heard as far as the Red Sea.22Look, like an eagle it will go up and soar and spread its wings over Bozrah, and the heart of the mighty men of Edom will be on that day like the heart of a woman in distress.
